Flexibility and Safety in a Laser Welding Cell – Turnkey Solution for the Application Laboratory of Maxphotonics
Initial Situation & Challenge
With the opening of the new site in Gilching, Maxphotonics set the goal of building a modern application laboratory for laser welding processes – equipped with a highly flexible robot cell that could cover both a wide range of laser sources and diverse processing scenarios. Special challenges lay in the specific requirements of laboratory operations: maximum flexibility for process development, safe handling of various optics and laser sources, and consistently high safety levels – despite experimental applications.
Our Solution
Together with Maxphotonics, we developed a customized laser welding cell for the new application laboratory –as a turnkey solution, realized in close cooperation with our electrical partner Evobay.

The cell has two flexibly usable workstations: one with a swivel-tilt positioner for complex component geometries and one stationary work surface for manual applications.

A specially developed confirmation logic ensures that up to five different optics and five different laser sources can be operated safely, efficiently, and error-free – a key element for laboratory environments with changing setups.

The integration of different processing technologies was supported by excellent cooperation with partner companies Alphalaser and Racontec.

The cell is designed to process a wide variety of materials – optimally suited to the requirements of a versatile application and development environment.

A special highlight is the implemented Application Kit, which allows highly flexible use of various sensor and measurement technologies within the secure working area – with minimal conversion and integration effort.
Results & Customer Benefits
The project enabled Maxphotonics to establish a state-of-the-art and future-proof application laboratory at the new site – with a robot cell that meets the highest technical and safety standards.
The solution combines maximum flexibility for process and application development with clearly structured safety functions and reliable system control – a prime example of our competence in the field of turnkey solutions.
